Students cannot spend much time on extracurricular activities during official semesters. As a result, summer is a golden opportunity to help students follow their interests and improve their skills. ACM Student Chapter has always tried to teach about trend topics in the world.
During summer of 2016, besides usual technical and theoretical classes about computer engineering, there were some other classes about Soft Skills. We know that this kind of skills is not taught via university courses. So focusing on these skills were one of the main goals of summer classes.
UTSec was held at the University of Tehran in 2 days in the light of the importance of hacking and how it is usually left out. This event consisted of 3 classes, covering the subjects reverse engineering, web attacks and network attacks followed by a Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. This event was sponsored by Amnafzar group.UTSec was held at the University of Tehran in 2 days in the light of the importance of hacking and how it is usually left out. During summer of 2015, beside usual technical classes (like Java, Network Security, C++, and MATLAB), there were gatherings with a theoretical base for curious students (like Scientific Computing and Concurrency). Also, students who wanted to know more about Artificial Intelligence basics could participate in Image Processing and Machine Learning classes. There were also classes about directly related fields to computer science (such as Marketing and Photoshop Design).
Each year more and more freshman students, show curiosity about learning more about the basics of their major and many of them have a good background as well (like participating in student Olympiads), and therefore ACM Student Chapter, sees ACM ICPC contests as an opportunity to help elevate these students talents. Every summer, classes are held by senior students, who teach important algorithmic and solving problem skills. These classes also happen to teach more about Data Structures and Algorithms basics. This year ACM ICPC classes were held in two levels of elementary and advanced. Elementary level classes were open to public and didn't need any background and were suitable for anyone interested in this topic. Mohammad Moein Zeraatkar and Mohsen Mahdieh, who have participated in regional ICPC contests, instructed these classes. The advanced level class was for those who had passed elementary level classes and wanted to participate in the contest more seriously. Hamed Saleh instructed this class.
Classes started from July 21st and were held till September 8th. Participation fee was based on Instructors demanded wager and there was an extra discount for students of the University of Tehran.
